The Houston Texans have placed linebacker Henry To'oTo'o on injured reserve before Week 2 after a shoulder injury against the Buffalo Bills. He exited near the end of the fourth quarter and later appeared with a splint. Coach DeMeco Ryans said a lengthy absence was expected, and the move was made official Tuesday.
Aaron Wilson, writing for KPRC 2 and Sports Talk 790, had reported Monday night that the designation was likely. To'oTo'o is projected to miss a few months, beyond injured reserve's four-game minimum.
Jake Hansen is expected to start with Azeez Al-Shaair, who is a Pro Bowl selection. Hansen finished the opener in To'oTo'o's place and played seven defensive snaps. Across his first five NFL seasons, Hansen has made four starts and logged 391 defensive snaps.
Wade Woodaz could take the third linebacker spot and appear in the base defense. He had 22 special teams snaps against Buffalo but no defensive snaps, and he is wearing a protective brace after preseason thumb surgery.
Seventh-round pick Aidan Fisher could be available for Week 2 after being inactive as a healthy scratch in the opener. Jamal Hill is another option, as he could be promoted from the practice squad. The Texans also are without E.J.
