Houston has elevated safety and special teams player George Odum from its practice squad for the Cincinnati Bengals game, leaving the team with one more elevation available for him under the current arrangement.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reported Sept. 19 that Odum was returning after taking part in 71% of Houston’s special teams snaps against Buffalo and making one tackle. The Texans lost that game 36-31. Caleb Bullock and Reed Blankenship are healthy, while Houston is using Odum for his special teams role. Coach DeMeco Ryans previously praised his playmaking during the preseason.
Odum is in his ninth NFL season and has spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers. He received one All-Pro honor with each team. The report gave his career totals as 205 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Another listing showed 209 tackles, along with the same numbers for interceptions, forced fumbles and recoveries, plus 12 starts in 109 games.
Pro Football Focus placed Odum 26th among 29 Houston special teams players for the Buffalo game, while noting that its overall grade does not detail his performance in each phase. Houston is scheduled to play the Colts in Week 3 after the Bengals game.
