The Houston Texans have made key roster changes during training camp, including the addition of former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and defensive lineman Mario Edwards. However, the team has not significantly altered its wide receiver corps, choosing instead to depend on younger talent already present on the roster.
As the regular season nears, the Texans' opportunities to secure a significant wide receiver seem to be dwindling. Recent signings of top receivers like Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen by other teams have left Houston with limited options. Although Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, his recovery from a torn ACL raises doubts about the feasibility of signing him.
Other available receivers, such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins, are not expected to greatly enhance the Texans' current depth.
The team may opt to stick with its existing wide receiver lineup, which features players like Nico Collins, who could emerge as the primary receiver, and Jayden Higgins as a potential second option. Additionally, contributions are anticipated from Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson, along with a healthy Tank Dell.
Despite not securing a major signing, the Texans' front office remains assured in their current wide receiver options. They possess more than $20 million in cap space, providing them with the ability to make adjustments if needed. Nonetheless, the chances of adding another impactful wide receiver before the season starts appear slim.
