Dominant Pitching Performance
Joey Volchko delivered a masterful pitching display for the Georgia Bulldogs, securing the win with 15 strikeouts while allowing no earned runs. Volchko pitched all nine innings, surrendering just four hits and one walk in a complete-game effort that kept the Texas Longhorns off the scoreboard entirely. The victory improved Volchko’s record to 11-2 on the season.
Texas relied on a three-pitcher combination to try and counter the Bulldogs’ offense, but none could match Volchko’s dominance. Dylan Volantis started for the Longhorns, taking the loss after pitching 6.1 innings. He allowed four hits and two earned runs, striking out nine batters before exiting with his record falling to 10-2. Brett Crossland followed, throwing 0.2 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts. Michael Winter closed out the game with one hitless inning, though he issued one walk and recorded one strikeout.
Early Scoring Surge
The Bulldogs established control early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. R. Lujo homered to left field, driving in T. Phelps to open the scoring. Two outs later, a wild pitch by Volantis allowed M. O'Shaughnessy to score, extending the advantage. The inning continued with a throwing error by catcher C. Tinney, which allowed K. Ishikawa to score from third base and B. Hudson to advance to third, bringing the total to four runs for Georgia.
Texas managed to get on the board in the fifth inning. A. Rodriguez reached third base on a throwing error by Volchko. Later in the frame, E. Mendoza singled to shallow right field, allowing Rodriguez to cross the plate and make the score 4-1.
