Langford's Power Breaks Tie
Wyatt Langford provided the decisive offensive blow for the Texas Rangers, launching a three-run home run in the third inning to shift the momentum against the San Diego Padres. The blast traveled 403 feet to left field, bringing home Higashioka and Lopez to give Texas an early 3-0 advantage at Globe Life Field.
Langford’s homer was the only home run of the contest. It stood as the pivotal moment in a game where the Padres would rally to tie the score before Texas reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning.
Padres Rally in Fourth
San Diego began chipping away at the Rangers' lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sheets opened the threat with a single to right field, allowing Merrill to score and making it 1-3. Bogaerts followed with a single to center, scoring Machado while Sheets was thrown out at home, narrowing the gap to 2-3.
The inning continued with Song doubling to right, which brought Bogaerts home to tie the game at 3-3. However, the Padres' rally stalled there. In the top of the fourth, Jung singled to left field, allowing Lopez to score and Langford to move to second, giving the Rangers a 4-3 lead that would hold until the final out.
Eovaldi Dominates on the Mound
Nathan Eovaldi earned the win for Texas, delivering a strong pitching performance over six innings. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out nine batters and walking only one. His nine strikeouts were a key factor in keeping the Padres' offense in check during his start.
Eovaldi (7-7) received support from the bullpen. Peyton Gray pitched a perfect inning for the hold, striking out two batters. Robby Ahlstrom also threw a scoreless frame, walking one batter. Jakob Junis closed out the game with the save, recording one strikeout despite allowing two hits in his inning.
Padres Pitching Struggles
The Padres' pitching staff struggled to contain the Rangers' bats. Lucas Giolito took the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits in four innings. He walked two batters and recorded two strikeouts. Wandy Peralta, Kyle Hart, Ron Marinaccio, and Yuki Matsui pitched the remaining innings for San Diego, combining to allow no additional earned runs but unable to prevent the final score.
The Rangers improved their record to 37-40, while the Padres fell to 39-37. The game was played in front of 36,311 spectators at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
