A Wild First Inning Sets the Tone

The game’s momentum was established in the opening frame, where both teams combined for ten runs. The Padres took an early 1-0 lead when Sheets singled to right, allowing Tatis Jr. to score while Taylor advanced to third. Texas immediately responded with a massive offensive surge. France launched a 363-foot home run to right field, driving in Taylor, Sheets, and Bogaerts to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 5-0 Rangers advantage.

San Diego attempted to claw back in the same inning. Nimmo doubled to center to score Pederson, making it 5-1. Osuna followed with a double to right, scoring Jung and Nimmo to bring the score to 5-3. Burger then doubled to left, scoring Duran and Osuna to make it 5-5. The rally continued as Díaz reached on an infield single to third, scoring Burger, putting the Padres ahead 6-5. However, the inning ended without further scoring, leaving the game tied later on.

Late Runs Decide the Outcome

The game remained tight through the middle innings. In the fourth, France hit a 409-foot home run to center field, tying the game at 6-6. Shortly after, Langford doubled to center, scoring Jung, but was thrown out at third base. The score remained 6-6 until the sixth inning, when Duran singled to center, scoring Jung to give the Rangers a 7-6 lead.

The final runs came in the eighth inning. Sheets homered to right field (391 feet), making the score 7-8. Langford then hit a 430-foot home run to left-center field, extending the Rangers' lead to 9-7. Texas bullpen pitchers Jakob Junis and Jacob Latz secured the victory. Junis pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and one earned run, earning the hold. Latz pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to record his 13th save.
