Deciding Moment
Manny Machado provided the decisive blow in the 10th inning, launching a three-run home run to left center that extended the San Diego Padres' lead and sealed the 6-4 win against the Texas Rangers. The 408-foot shot put three runs on the board, turning a tight contest into a comfortable margin for the visiting team. Earlier in the same frame, Jake Burger had tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run homer to right center in the seventh inning, setting the stage for the extra-inning drama.
Game Progression
The Padres took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning when Machado doubled to center field, allowing Fernando Tatis Jr. to cross the plate. The Rangers answered in the sixth inning as Josh Jung scored on a double by Jonah Langford, tying the game at 1-1. San Diego regained the lead in the seventh when Burger’s homer drove in two runs, making it 3-1.
The Rangers fought back in the eighth inning. Machado grounded out to third, but Tatis Jr. scored to tie the game at 3-3. Immediately after, Merrill singled to right field, bringing Taylor home to give San Diego a 4-3 advantage. However, the Rangers tied the game again later in the inning, making the score 4-4 before heading into extras. In the 10th, after Machado’s three-run blast made it 6-4, Langford reached on an infield single to third, allowing Adolis Díaz to score, though the Rangers could not overcome the deficit.
