The Washington Nationals dismantled the Texas Rangers 6-0 on Thursday, August 20, at Globe Life Field, powered by a pair of long balls and a dominant pitching performance from Cade Cavalli. The away team bats in the top of each inning, and they capitalized on early opportunities to build an insurmountable lead before the Rangers could mount a comeback.
Attendance at the Arlington venue was 23,963.
Early Offense Sets Tone
The Nationals took the lead in the third inning when Tena launched a 415-foot home run to center. The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning, when Ruiz singled to right field, allowing Chaparro to score and extend the margin to 2-0. In the sixth inning, Vivas grounded out to the pitcher, but the play still resulted in Chaparro scoring and Ruiz advancing to third, pushing the lead to 3-0. The Rangers failed to record a single run throughout the contest.
Cavalli Dominates
Cade Cavalli was the anchor of the Nationals' staff, throwing six scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters. The bullpen maintained the shutout, with Will Dion pitching one hitless inning with one strikeout, Max Kranick allowing one hit over one inning, and Jake Bird recording one strikeout in one inning without surrendering a run or a base on balls.
