US 75 frontage roads through Howe and Van Alstyne narrow to one lane at Bear and Hall Cemetery roads as widening work continues

TxDOT's schedule for the week says pavement work on the one-way frontage roads is finished, but single-lane sections remain at two crossings while crews stripe and finish work south of FM 902.

Drivers using the U.S. 75 frontage roads through Howe and Van Alstyne will find both lanes open on most stretches this week, but only one lane at Bear Road and at Hall Cemetery Road, according to the Texas Department of Transportation's Grayson County work schedule.

The schedule, which TxDOT issued for the week and the Herald Democrat published Tuesday, says paving on the frontage roads between County Line Road (CR 375, also called Panther Parkway) and Haning Street is complete. Occasional lane closures will continue there so crews can put down work zone striping and finish other items.

How traffic flows now

Both frontage roads, east and west of the highway, run one way between County Line Road and Haning Street. One exception remains: the east-side frontage road between Kelly Lane and County Line Road stays two-way so traffic from Kelly Lane can still reach County Line Road.

North of Haning Street, the frontage roads in Howe up to FM 902 have run one way on both sides since Feb. 4. TxDOT says crews still close lanes now and then to finish backfill and striping on that stretch.

The bigger project

The work is part of a project widening the U.S. 75 main lanes to six lanes from the Collin County line to FM 902. It also rebuilds the bridge at County Line Road and adds two U-turn bridges: one in Van Alstyne near Simmons Loop and one in Howe south of Hall Cemetery Road.

On the main lanes, two lanes in each direction stay open during the day, with some lane closures at night. The construction speed limit is 65 mph.

Farther north, the widening between FM 902 and FM 1417, on the south side of Sherman, has its own long-term closure: the left lane of the northbound frontage road, between a point just south of FM 1417 and Davis Street, plus the FM 1417 entrance ramp to northbound U.S. 75, has been closed since Oct. 12 and is scheduled to stay that way until the end of 2027.

Crews also pick up debris along U.S. 75 from the Collin County line to the Oklahoma line on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, which brings moving lane closures, the schedule says.
