A fire on North Ricketts Street in Sherman led to the complete destruction of a family's home on Sunday afternoon. The Redden family, who had spent the last two years remodeling their residence to be ADA compliant, is now seeking support from the community.
Whitney Redden shared that a friend visiting the home noticed smoke shortly after arrival. Upon checking, she found flames in the sunroom and promptly called 911. The fire escalated quickly, spreading to the first floor of the house.
Neighbor Ryan Flournoy, alerted by his wife while they were outside with their dogs, called emergency services and jumped the fence to help. He assisted in rescuing Whitney's husband, Rusty, who has a disability. Fortunately, all three individuals inside were able to escape unharmed.
The family, however, lost many personal items in the blaze, including Rusty's glasses, wheelchair, medications, and vital documents. Additionally, equipment and recordings Rusty had been working on were lost. Currently, they are residing in temporary accommodations and are in need of a vehicle, clothing, and other necessities.
Whitney expressed her gratitude for their survival, stating they are determined to move forward despite the challenges. Community members can assist through their GoFundMe page.
