Denison firefighters are preparing for the city’s annual Independence Day fireworks celebration, which will be the largest display in the community's history. The event is scheduled for Saturday night at Munson Stadium, located approximately 18 miles north of Howe.
The production involves a team of roughly ten fire department personnel working closely with Denison Main Street. According to Lindsey, a member of the fire department, the operation requires significant coordination and physical labor. The crew handles the wiring and setup of the pyrotechnics, enduring high temperatures during the preparation process.
The show utilizes a fully electronic firing system, a technology adopted in 2014. This system allows the operators to launch the fireworks remotely from a distance of 300 to 400 feet away from the launch site. Lindsey noted that this remote setup improves safety for the crew compared to previous methods.
The upcoming display will feature approximately 1,000 fireworks set to a 25-minute duration. The celebration includes additional activities for attendees, such as food vendors, inflatables, face painting, rides, and live music. Gates open at 5 p.m., with Shawnda Rains Entertainment scheduled to perform starting at 7:30 p.m.
