Crews are preparing Pecan Grove West Park in Sherman for the upcoming Lights on the Lake event, a celebration of America’s 250th birthday scheduled for Thursday. Sherman is about 9 miles north of Howe.

Sarah McRae, the Tourism and Main Street Manager for the City of Sherman, described the production as a major undertaking for the community. She advised attendees to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion and secure a spot in the park. While parking lots are located near the park entrance, McRae specifically recommended the Pecan Grove Athletic Complex for paved parking. She noted that visitors can use wagons to transport items from that lot to the event area.

Accessible parking is available for those with handicap placards, with a golf cart provided to transport guests to the festivities. The park gates open at 4 p.m. The program begins with the national anthem at 7:15 p.m., followed by a performance from the band Collective Soul at 7:45 p.m. The fireworks display, sponsored by Simmons Bank, is set for 9:30 p.m.

Attendees are permitted to bring coolers into the park. Umbrellas and shade structures are allowed during the day but must be taken down when the show starts. Pets are welcome but must remain on a leash and behave appropriately in the loud environment created by the concert and fireworks.

The event will feature nearly 20 vendors and bounce houses for children. A wristband for the bounce houses costs $5. McRae highlighted that the entertainment includes a flyover by an F-4 Phantom aircraft. She described Collective Soul as a prominent 1990s alternative rock group that continues to perform.

The event is free and open to the public, with no charge for parking. McRae expressed pride in the community and the country as the celebration approaches.
